Adams Fire Companies Awarded Grants to Combat Forest Fires, Moul Says
HARRISBURG – Rep. Dan Moul (R-Adams/Franklin) announced that four fire companies in his legislative district will receive a share of more than $590,000 in federal grants through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to guard against threats of forest fires and fires in other undeveloped areas.

Fire companies receiving grants are:

• Bonneauville Community Volunteer Fire Co. Inc., Gettysburg, $2,359.
• Buchanan Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Orrtanna, $7,500.
• Cashtown Community Fire Department, Cashtown, $2,550.
• Fountain Dale Volunteer Fire Department, Fairfield, $1,462.

The grants, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service, will be used to provide firefighting equipment and train volunteers. Fire companies in communities with fewer than 10,000 residents qualify. Recipients are selected based on vulnerability and adequacy of existing fire protection. According to DCNR, there are about 158 volunteer fire companies that serve rural areas and communities where forest and brush fires are a particular threat.
